Description: Marvelous walnut Victorian reclining armchair made by George
Hunzinger. It is signed on the back leg "Hunzinger, NY, Pat. Feb. 6,1866"
(see photo). The frame is beautifully decorated with extensive incised
carvings with the original gilt. There are brass caps on the ends of the
seat and back. The chair has four fancy turned stretchers. It has the
original velvet upholstery - still useable but obviously worn. It is also
missing one button tuft. The chair has three different inclines that can be
adjusted by moving the arms around a peg on the sides. A lesser model of
this chair is shown on page 166 of "Art and Enterprise" by Donald C. Peirce.
The gilt incising on this chair is fantastic! This museum quality chair is
in remarkably fine untouched original condition!
