Description: Unusual Victorian Swivel Stool made by Thomas
E. Warren, Troy, New York as documented in "Innovative
Furniture in America" by David Hanks. Warren patented the
centripetal spring in September of 1849 and made chairs with
and without backs. The bowed spring was designed to give
"agreeable elasticity in all directions." The swivel stool has open
metal work on the tripod base with griffins and scrollwork. The
center post was painted black (in keeping with the procedure
of Warren's furniture making) and shows some slight flaking of
paint indicative
of its age. We had the upholstered top recovered in a moss damask. Circa: 1850 Dimensions: 21" H x 15" W x 15" D Finish: Fair original Price: $1195.00 |
