Description: Wonderful Victorian country store spool dispenser. It is
signed "Merrick's Spool Cotton" above the slotted drawer in the front. The
top has a brass tag that says "Patented July 20, 1897." There are two
loading holes in the top where the clerk would fill the sides of the
cabinet. These holes have a wooden cover that can be slid on or off.
Square handles protrude from the top that allow the owner to spin the
interior of each side to line up with the column that he or she wishes to
fill. This unique mechanism works like a charm! The four bowed side
glasses each have the original gold writing "Merrick's Six Cord Soft Finish
Spool Cotton." There are two curved swing out doors in the base where the
spools can be removed from the cabinet. The back is finished like the front
without the drawer and doors. There is an original rectangular mirror in
the middle of the front and back. With a little imagination, this could
creatively be used as an end table or coffee table. This cabinet is very
decorative and a real conversation piece!
