Description: Lovely walnut Renaissance Revival Victorian credenza. There
is a beautiful carved top crest that features raised shaped burled panels.
A triangular burled panel flanks it on each side. Notice the heart shaped
cutout in the middle of each of these. This piece was missing the marble
when we purchased it. We had a gorgeous old piece of colored marble cut to
the original shape. There is a drawer with original fancy drop pulls below
the marble. The three doors in the base each has an inset burled panel.
The words "S.C.C. Treaty Elm 1682" are inlaid within the central burled
panel (see photo). The Penn Treaty Museum states "In 1682, along the gentle
banks of the Delaware River, under the shade of a great elm tree in an area
then known as Shackamaxon, William Penn is believed to have made a Treaty of
Friendship with the Native Americans." We suspect that this piece was
probably made for the bicentennial of this event. We have no idea what the
S.C.C. stands for. There are original shelves inside each of the cabinets.
The base and side panels of this cabinet are all decorated with burl. The
entire cabinet has original black accents on the moldings and trim. This
decoration along with the careful use of book matched burls attest to the
quality and craftsmanship exhibited with this fine piece.
