Description: Fantastic Rosewood Credenza in a narrow size with a gorgeous porcelain center Sevres type plaque and exquisitely inlaid on all three sides. The top is dramatically shaped with the perimeter outlined in the original thick brass ormolu trim. The porcelain plaque is trimmed in gold and turquoise and depicts a man and woman in period clothes reclining on a hillside. The two original gilt patinated busts on either side top stile show a regal woman with a tiger headdress and draped clothing with a butterfly collar. The shaped center door is amazing with inlay of a mask face, an aladdin lantern that shows a hint of smoke, a beautifully rendered urn, musical instruments, flowers and leaves (see photo). The birdseye maple interior is in mint original condition. The concave sides are decorated with more musical instruments and more wonderful inlay from top to bottom with ebony and fine gilt incising. For a photo of a similar cabinet please review page 114 of a piece at the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, attributed to Pottier & Stymus Manufacturing Co., in "Herter Brothers Furniture and Interiors for a Gilded Age."
