Description: This very large Victorian walnut swivel chair was commissioned to to be made for President Grover Cleveland after he retired. It was a custom order by Paine Furniture Company, Boston. However, Cleveland died (in 1908) before the chair could be delivered. The chair then went to an oil dealer in Brighton, MA and was passed down to his grand daughter, Leta Downing, of Fortunes Rocks, Biddeford, Maine. The chair has been in her family until this time. The chair is in excellent original condition and finish. The hand woven caned seat and back are also in immaculate condition. Please refer to the photos to see the many fine features including carvings, beading, turned spindles, and a beautiful carved corresponding base. The chair rotates on an adjusting post for height.
