Description: Elegant Victorian drop center chest with the original faux
rosewood grain signed by A.C. Richards, Cincinnati, OH (see photo of inside
of drawer). "E. Risch" is stamped into the wood in several places (see
photo). We assume that he was the carver. The chest features an elaborate
open carved top crest over an arched top. There are two shaped raised panels
in the top with incised carvings. A thick molding surrounds the mirror.
The fancy side brackets have carvings and two shaped candle shelves with
open carved supports. The mirror is held in place between the supports by a
pair of dowels on each side. The ornate carved knobs on the sides of each
support are for decoration only. Original white marbles with rounded
corners rest on each side with a center square cut marble in the base.
There are two small drawers on each side with two full length drawers
beneath. The top drawers have birdseye maple interiors. The front of the
chest is handsomely decorated with carved pulls, richly carved columns, and
raised shaped panels with incised carvings on the drawers. A superb chest
by one of the famous Cincinnati furniture makers with fine original faux
finish!
