Description: Delightful Carved Mahogany Chifferobe Chest with a surprise: a secret
front lid that drops down to reveal two large interior drawers! The top lid opens as
expected with an area for storage (the mahogany interior wood is indicative of the
fine quality of this piece). On the front edge next to the lock plate there is a long
brass hook. When lifted out this hook releases the front lid for access to the interior
chifferobe drawers. The top of the chest is beautifully carved with leaves and scrolls
and the initials "H A C" in the center. The top edge also is gadrooned and the front
secret lid is beautifully carved with three dimensional flowers in an urn. The chest is finished all
around with more fine carvings on the base and four hairy claw feet. This piece
is in amazing original condition with a warm, rich patina. The original maker's
tag inside the lid reads "Designed and Made by Hersee, Buffalo, NY."
