Description: Very rare Rococo walnut Victorian corner dresser signed "F. W.
Hutchings, Broadway, NYC." There is a lovely open carved oval mirror held
between two fancy carved harps. The are round recessed bottom carved candle
cups on each side with ornate turned supports. The shaped original white
marble top had a repair to the left front corner. The serpentine shaped
front has four graduated drawers with raised moldings and tear drop pulls
(replaced). The back of the chest has been crudely cut out to fit in a
custom corner (see photo) but this can not be seen when it is in a corner
and it doesn't affect the sturdiness and structure of the piece. There are
a few minor vertical age separations on the sides. Hutchings was one of the
fine Broadway furniture makers that included Herter, John Henry Belter,
Julius Dessoir, Kimbel and Cabus, J and J Meeks, and Alexander Roux. This is
a form we have never seen before and to have it signed by a good maker makes
it most interesting!
