Description: Early Victorian mahogany secretary. It has an arched top with
intricate heavy carvings and an ornate carved finial on either side. The
original glass doors have a shaped top and a lovely carved edge surrounding
the glass. There are three original adjustable shelves in the interior.
The lock on the right door is missing and has been replaced with a piece of
wood (see photo). There are three narrow drawers under the top section and
a fall front desk below those. It has a gorgeous satinwood seven drawer
interior. A previous owner installed a felt writing surface. The base has
two doors with inset panels. Like the doors, the panels have a fancy carved
rounded molding surrounding them. There is a shelf in the interior of the
cupboard (see photo). As is typical of flat sided mahogany secretaries of
this period, there are some splits in the sides. The left side is lighter
due to sun exposure. There is also two 10 inch old repairs under the lid
(see photo). This is a handsome secretary in nice functional condition!
