Description: A fine quality and most usual style walnut Victorian fall
front secretary. There is a flat pediment on top with curved sides. The
top portion has a mirrored door in the middle with cupboard doors on either
side and three drawers underneath with original knob pulls. The desk
interior is all birdseye maple with two drawers and several cubbies. We had
a gold tooled leather top installed for the writing surface. There is a
full length drawer under that and two cupboard doors in the bottom. Three
of the cupboards have normal horizontal shelving whereas the right top one
has vertical file dividers (see photo). This entire piece is decorated with
fancy moldings, carved applied buttons, and raised burled panels. Notice
the deep recessed panels on the sides of the bottom of the desk. The
quality and design leads us to believe that it was made by Thomas Brooks,
NYC but we have no firm attribution.
