Description: Majestic large walnut Victorian butler's secretary. It has a
lovely crest with a carving at the top and raised shaped panels on either
side with extensive incised carvings. The two doors have a molding around
the arched glass with a carving at the top. The sides are decorated with
small shaped raised panels. There are four adjustable shelves in the top.
The desk pullout has a two drawer birdseye maple interior, open slats along
each side and a replaced gold tooled leather writing surface. The front of
the lid locks into the cabinet when it is raised and the whole unit slides
out like a drawer. There is a slight warp to the front and the receiving
metal end of the lock is missing on one side but the lock on the right side
is adequate. There are some mars on the inside where the hinges were reset
at one point. The pulls on the front and cabinet doors are lovely applied
carvings. There is one shelf in the bottom cupboard. A magnificent piece
for a library, office or dining room!
