Description: Absolutely Wonderful Set of Twelve Victorian Solid Walnut Dining Chairs with open pierced carved backs. The set includes two host arm chairs and ten side chairs. The chairs have small crests at the top with a center stylized shell and scrolling on each side. There is a three section back with pierced carved center splat and incising around the frames with well turned legs.
Notice the delicate carving at the top of the arm of the host chair, the shape, and the decorative incising on the front and sides (see photos). The seats have a gentle serpentine front. The damask fabric was put on by the previous owner and is in very good, usable condition.
The previous owner also lightly overcoated in a few areas, on some chairs, apparently
to give some of the chairs a bit more sheen. We have toned them down so the finish
is consistent (this was only in a few areas). This is a heavy, handsome, complete set of
walnut formal dining chairs which is very rare to find!
