Description: Beautiful quartered oak grandfathers clock. It has a broken
arch top with open carvings on the side and egg and dart carvings under the
arched molding. The top portion of the center finial has been restored.
There are slightly tapered round columns on the hood and case with fancy
carvings on the top and bottom. The front door and sides of the case have
beveled glass with rounded top and bottom. A delicate beading surrounds the
door and the bottom of the carving under the hood. The sides of the hood
have open carved fretwork to let the sound reverberate out. There is a
small old repair to the right front side of the case. The base flairs out
and has a lovely center double flame carving. The front feet have animal
heads, wings and claws. The movement is signed "P.A.A 1/2 Elite, Germany"
and numbered 86978. It has five original tubes that are signed "Elite" and
dated 1900. The tube support is dated 1904. The movement plays chimes on
the quarter hour and strikes the hour. There is a revolving moon dial in
the top of the face. The dial has a silver ring and second hand. We could
have the silver on the face cleaned and polished at the buyers request. A
grand and stylish oak tall clock!
