Description: Fantastic two piece Renaissance Revival Victorian bedroom
suite - bed has queen size width! We attribute this suite to Allen & Bros,
Philadelphia. The top crests incorporate raised shaped burled panels,
carved moldings, full columns and exceptionally carved top and side finials.
The bed has a highly figured burled recessed panel in both the headboard and
footboard. The later also has a burled "rolling pin" at the top. The
siderails have high returns that go into the headboard. We even have the
original slats for the bed. The bed is 60"W (slightly narrower at each end)
and 77.5"L between the rails. A custom box spring could be ordered or the
rails could be lengthened to accommodate a full queen size boxspring.
The dresser has an original beveled glass mirror with the slight diamond
dusting at the bottom - a charming feature of the old mirrors! It has an
original reddish brown marble top, burled drawer fronts and cast brass
pulls. Both the bed and dresser have the rich thick original finish, black
highlights and sharp carved design associated with the Allen & Bros firm.
It is very unusual to find a Victorian bed of this width. This suite is of
wonderful quality and original condition!
